Privacy Policy

This policy explains what 9tiles collects from people joining the waitlist, why, and how it is handled, in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Who we are

9tiles (“we”, “us”) is a dating app currently in a pre-launch waitlist phase, opening first in Sydney, Australia. For any privacy question, correction, or deletion request, contact our privacy team at privacy@9tiles.com.

What we collect

When you join the waitlist, we collect:

  • Contact details — your email address and mobile number
  • Your first name
  • Your country, postcode, and suburb
  • Your date of birth (used to confirm you are 18 or over, and for age-based matching)
  • Your gender and sexuality
  • Your height
  • Whether you are religious and, if so, your religion, whether you'd like to only match with people of the same religion, and whether you'd like your religion shown on your profile (off by default)
  • Your photo, if you choose to upload one

Sensitive information: your religion and your sexuality are sensitive information under the Privacy Act. Your photo, if you upload one, can also reveal information such as race or ethnicity, and is likewise treated as sensitive information. We only collect this with your separate, explicit consent — see “Sensitive information & consent” below.

Why we collect it

We use this information to run the waitlist (contacting you about your position and when we open), to confirm you meet our 18+ eligibility requirement, and to build your first matches once 9tiles launches. We do not use it for any other purpose without telling you and, where required, obtaining your consent first.

Sensitive information & consent

Because religion, sexuality, and your photo (if you provide one) are sensitive information, the waitlist form asks for your explicit, separate consent to collect and use these fields — and your photo, if you provide one — for matching and for your profile before you can join. You can withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us — see “Access & correction” below.

Storage & disclosure

Your waitlist profile is stored using Supabase (database) and Vercel (hosting), both hosted in the Sydney, Australia region — this information is not stored or processed outside Australia.

The one exception is the confirmation email you receive after joining. We use Resend, an email delivery provider, to send it, and Resend processes your email address and first name — and no other information you provide — outside Australia, in Japan, in order to deliver that email. Resend is bound by a data processing agreement and holds SOC 2 Type II security certification.

If you upload a photo, it is stored privately in Supabase Storage — it is not publicly accessible by URL, and is only ever accessed by our own servers.

We do not sell your information or share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We may disclose information where required by law.

Security safeguards

We apply reasonable technical safeguards, including restricting database access so that waitlist entries cannot be read or written directly by the public, transmitting data over HTTPS, and limiting who on our team can access raw entries.

Retention & deletion

We keep waitlist entries for as long as needed to run the waitlist and, if you join, to set up your account at launch. We will delete your entry within 6 months of us choosing not to invite you, or if launch is cancelled. You can ask us to delete your entry at any time — see below.

Access & correction

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing privacy@9tiles.com. We will respond within a reasonable time.

Data breach

If we experience a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will assess and respond in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where required.

If you have a concern about how we've handled your information, contact us at privacy@9tiles.com first. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the OAIC at oaic.gov.au.

Cookies & tracking

This waitlist currently does not use cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts. If that changes, we will update this policy first.

Age

9tiles is for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the waitlist and, later, the app evolve. We'll update the “last updated” date above when we do.
