Privacy Policy

When you join the waitlist, we collect:

• Contact details — your email address and mobile number
• Your first name
• Your country, postcode, and suburb
• Your date of birth (used to confirm you are 18 or over, and for age-based matching)
• Your gender and sexuality
• Your height
• Whether you are religious and, if so, your religion, whether you'd like to only match with people of the same religion, and whether you'd like your religion shown on your profile (off by default)
• Your photo, if you choose to upload one

Sensitive information: your religion and your sexuality are sensitive information under the Privacy Act. Your photo, if you upload one, can also reveal information such as race or ethnicity, and is likewise treated as sensitive information. We only collect this with your separate, explicit consent — see “Sensitive information & consent” below.

If you play 9tiles Charm Quotient, we collect:

• The first name or nickname you give us
• Your gender and sexuality, which we use to choose your match
• Your answers to the game's questions
• The reply and score generated for each answer, and your overall result
• When you played and how far you got
• Your email address, if you ask us to email your results (see below)

Leaderboards: if you play from a friend's leaderboard link, your nickname and score are shown on that leaderboard to anyone who has the link, and the person who started it may be emailed when you join or beat their score. Use a nickname if you'd rather not use your real name.

Unless you ask us to email your results, we don't ask for your contact details to play, and we never store your IP address with your game. A game is only linked to your waitlist entry if you join the waitlist from the same browser. Before it is, the waitlist asks for your consent to use your sexuality and your game answers, and every game you played in that browser is then attached to your waitlist entry and may be used to build your 9tiles profile.

Please don't include personal details in your answers, such as your full name, phone number or address, or anyone else's, or anything you'd rather we didn't hold alongside your email address.

If you ask us to email your game results, you'll need to tick a box agreeing to our Terms and this policy, and to receive your results, updates about your leaderboard, and news and offers from 9tiles. We keep a record of when you agreed and the exact wording you agreed to. We then:

• Delete your sexuality, and which match you played, from that game, so we never hold your sexuality alongside your email address. If you join the waitlist, we'll ask for it again.
• Store your email address with your nickname, linked to that game and the leaderboard it starts.
• Email you your results. Your answers and ratings are below a line in that email, which you can delete before forwarding it to friends. What you forward, and to whom, is up to you.
• Email you when someone joins your leaderboard or beats your score.
• From time to time, email you news and offers about 9tiles.

Every email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing deletes your email address and stops all Charm Quotient emails. It doesn't affect a waitlist entry.

Your waitlist profile and Charm Quotient results are stored using Supabase (database) and Vercel (hosting), both hosted in the Sydney, Australia region. This information is not stored outside Australia, and is only processed outside Australia in the two cases below.

The first is email. We use Resend, an email delivery provider, to send the confirmation email you receive after joining the waitlist, news and offers to the waitlist, and Charm Quotient's results and leaderboard emails. Resend processes your email address and the content of those emails outside Australia, in Japan, in order to deliver them. For the waitlist confirmation email that is just your first name, and news and offers contain nothing about you beyond your email address. For game emails it is your nickname, scores and answers, and the nicknames and scores of other players on your leaderboard. Resend is bound by a data processing agreement and holds SOC 2 Type II security certification.

The second is Charm Quotient. Each answer you give is sent, together with the question, to Anthropic, the provider of the Claude AI model, which writes your match's reply and scores the answer. Anthropic processes this outside Australia, including in the United States. It does not receive your gender, your sexuality, or any contact details, and it does not use this information to train its models.

If you upload a photo, it is stored privately in Supabase Storage — it is not publicly accessible by URL, and is only ever accessed by our own servers.

We do not sell your information or share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We may disclose information where required by law.

We use Vercel Web Analytics, a first-party, cookieless analytics service, to see how many people visit this page and how far they get through the waitlist form and Charm Quotient. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not collect your name, email, phone number, or any other information you enter in the form.

Charm Quotient keeps a list of the games you've played in your browser's local storage, so they can be attached to your waitlist entry if you join. The list is cleared once you join. It also remembers your last match, so you meet someone new next time.
